Past and present PlanetSide subscribers recently received an email from Sony with extremely promising news: "We plan to expand the PlanetSide universe with another game and we need your help with the design. After all, who knows the game better than you, our customers, the people who actually play it!" The purpose of the mail-out: to draw attention to a new online survey.

While stopping short of formally officially announcing PlanetSide 2, Sony has hinted at its intentions by snapping up the domain name.

When pressured for further details, Sony Online CEO John Smedly had this to say: "We have big things planned in the next 12 months. Were working on something new thats really cool."

Sony has also confirmed that a new patch for PlanetSide offering full Vista compliance is in the works.
