Call of Duty:WaW Review
By Hicks
Single Player
Well another game in the Call of Duty series has hit our shores, we've stormed the beaches many times in the Call of Duty series playing as Americans V Germans as the main campaigns with British v Germans and so on thrown in.
Most of the time the Pacific theatre of war was forgotten. Now we have the jungles to fight in as the focus is set on the war between the Japanese and Americans with a Russian v German campaign as well.
Starting off in the Single player campaign you are captured by the Japanese with a buddy being tortured who has a cigarette put out in his eye, then has his throat slit by the "jailer". Just as he moves in to you, your saved by a rescue mission and must fight your way out of this hell hole.
Now for me, World at War(WaW) seems a lot more fast paced then the other Call of Duty games, it's more a move move move style of game play, the enemy take cover but still are pretty stupid. You can only do so much with the AI I suppose.
With this fast paced action I think you can lose a little bit of focus in game play, unless you move forward the enemy spawns endlessly which is frustrating as ammo becomes a problem. You can pick up enemy weapons of course, but I had the problems of not having the right ammo drop for me.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer brings new meaning to the game in the respect that the maps in the full version are fantasic, we have a couple of smaller maps for close fighting and Cliffside is a snipers paradise. I haven't had the chance to get too many screenshots yet of MP, I forget to actually press the key. The folige is great though and you can take cover, sneak up on the enemy and really sock it to them with the right perks on.
Multiplayer brings back all the old Favourites like Capture the Flag, sabotage search and destroy plus a new one, WAR. Like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare it gives us 5 standard kits to chose from plus 5 Custom to make up as we see fit, what is new is the Prestige mode which will allow people to have another 5 custom slots. Currently unsure as to how it will work but it will unlock as you level up, what's rumoured though is you can chose to take the Prestige path and have 5 extra kits, OR you can unlock certain weapons and stick with just 5.
The maps in Multiplayer range from Russian V German combat to the Pacific theatre with the US V Japan. All have certain spots to hide in if you're a sniper or corners to run around if you like to run and gun. Tanks have made a comeback though and it can take a few guys to take one out, so this brings in teamwork to the game once again. We still have kill streaks where you're able to get a Recon plane (UAV from COD4), Artillery strike (Air Strike) and the new Dogs, Unleash the Hounds (Similar to the Helicopter).
The dogs in this game are a lot more panic inducing than the Helicopter from Modern Warfare due to the fact they are on the ground, they move fast and surprise you by leaping at your face, best way to kill them is to use your knife.
Unfortunately a lot of people are trying to compare MW (Modern Warfare) and WaW (World at War) with one another forgetting that even though they are the same graphics engine, they are two completely different games and styles of play. It doesn't matter what level you are, your still able to shoot someone 40 levels above you using the basic weapons. As you progress through the ranks you unlock perks like Bouncing Betties (Like my dates, up and down), Second chance (this is a game changer) and my favourite, the Flame thrower!
Co-Op Mode
Well Tails and myself decided to have a go at Co-Op for a laugh and see what the Zombie mode was like, I asked Mayday and Hossy to join us so we had a full team of 4. We had a few hiccups while we got things set up and organised. After having a few rounds we thought, hell lets try the SP missions as a group.
Everything was hosted from my PC which was painless and simple to do, we only noticed lag when I was flaming in 1 mission that cleared up once I stopped flaming.
It's hard to describe the game moving from Single Player to Co-Op mode, it adds so much more depth and excitement to each mission, also I noticed it was harder than when I played some of the missions solo, this may due to my level compared to the other guys as well.
You only gain experience by completing challenges in Co-Op mode so it's not a great way to level but at least you can still do it. Tails started as level 1 and as you can see from a later shot I think he ended up being level 6.
We played through each and every mission and completed the entire game on Co-Op mode. There was a few missions missing from the Single player campaign but this is to be expected as you couldn't do them all as a group.
After completing the Co-Op campaign we decided it was time for bed, being the fact that for me and Tails it was 3:50am, yes we played for hours and had an absolute ball doing it. We reached level 12 in the Zombie mode as well and look forward to doing even more with everyone in OLDr, we were giving Vampy stick as well near the end of the night raving on about how good the game is and how great the Co-Op mode makes the game.
If World at War doesn't get Game of the Year I will be highly suprised to be honest, it's a great game made more awesome by adding in "Team Play" which sadly lacks from other games. I am looking forward to Mods now with more content.
Call of Duty: World at War, in my opinion one of the best games ever released, 5/5

Call of Duty
Here at OLDr! All of the incarnations of the Ever Popular FPS franchise “Call of Duty” are played and well represented. We have 2 servers devoted to these games which are open to the public or can be locked for members’ enjoyment only, for those special fun nights .
One server can be set up for either Call of Duty or Call of Duty United offensive as we wish while the other can be switched between Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4. All versions are setup with configs for either standard or a good assortment of Mod Maps and game types. We field squads in the Game Arena competitions for Call of Duty 2 and call of Duty 4 at the moment and although we don’t set the world on fire we surely have a great time and sometimes shake up the young’uns out there .

Day of Defeat: Source is a conversion of Day of Defeat, the World War II online shooter that was originally developed as a free mod for Half-Life. Built on the Source engine and distributed through Steam, Day of Defeat: Source offers team-based game play with scenarios inspired by historical World War II battles. It was the first Source game to incorporate high dynamic range (HDR) rendering, predating the official HDR technical demo, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast.
Team Fortress 2 is an online team based FPS game from the mighty Valve gaming. It utilises the brilliant Half Life2 next generation graphics for the terrain, buildings etc... but the characters are of a cartoonish appearance, which actually works well.
They have reproduced all the TF maps from Team Fortress Classic but have added different game mods rather then the basic capture the flag of the original. There are maps for which control points must be taken & held, there are maps in which one team is to defend & the other attack & still they have the old classic 2 Fort which is CTF .
Unreal Tournament 3
We have some members still playing this game, though we could do with some more!! Any takers? .
Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) is a first-person shooter and online multiplayer video game by Epic Games and is the next installment of the Unreal series after Unreal Tournament 2004. It is published by Midway Games and was released in North America for Windows on November 19, 2007. It was released in North America for the PlayStation 3 on December 10, 2007. The Linux installer is planned to be released later as a downloadable installer that works with the Windows disc.
Unreal Tournament 3 is actually the fourth game in the Unreal Tournament series and the eighth Unreal game, but it has been numbered in terms of the engine it runs on. The original Unreal Tournament uses the original Unreal Engine, while UT2003 and UT2004 use the Unreal Engine 2, and 2004 incorporates all of the content from 2003; therefore they are considered as the same generation. UT3 is subsequently part of the third generation, because it runs on the Unreal Engine 3, and does not reuse any content. In March 2008, Midway announced that UT3 had sold over a million copies worldwide.
M.M.O.R.P.G.’s
World of Warcraft. (WoW)
We are currently building on our Guilds in this game. We play mostly on the Proudmoore server currently and have the Order of the Long Dagger on Alliance side and the Officers of Life and Death on the Horde side. Guild banks etc are in place and we’re looking to get bigger and have some serious fun!! Why not come join us? OLDr! Dummy will help you out if you visit our WoW forums .
World of Warcraft (commonly known as WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). It is Blizzard Entertainment's fourth game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard's previous release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001. The game was released on November 23, 2004, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. It is currently the world's largest MMORPG in terms of monthly subscribers.
The first official expansion pack of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007. During the 2007 BlizzCon event, Blizzard announced a second expansion pack called Wrath of the Lich King on August 3, 2007. The release date of Wrath of the Lich King has not been announced.
Lord of the Rings Online. (LotRO)
We are well represented in this game and have our Australian Kinship up and running with a Kinship House almost in our grasp . Come join us and have some fun as we grow!! Contact OLDr! Ozbrat in our LotRO Forums to get on board!
LotRO is a Massively Multiplayer Online game, where you create a character, complete quests, collect items from these quests as well as from anything you kill along the way (and there is plenty of them) & in turn you gain experience, wealth, skills & all this enables you to level up. It is a vast game.
There are in excess of 14 huge maps with more being added with patches, which are automatically downloaded. The world is vast & beautiful, the graphics in LotRO are stunning & with a PC of the recommended requirements the world really does look good. Each map has many quests, lots of nasty things to avoid or kill (depending how tough or brave you are), many towns, farms, hamlets to visit & always the NPC's to talk to & maybe even get more quests to take on.
The quests can be long or short & there is the larger quest, which actually follows a story line. You can quest alone or group up, but some quests can not be completed alone unless you are a way higher level then your enemies & then you get little experience points for the quest.
