Over 46,000 submissions amassed in support of an R18+ rating

Having thrown its official support behind an R18+ rating scheme at the start of the month, EB Games have today announced that they have already received in excess of 46,000 signatures in support of the cause.

The announcement arrives in support of the IGEA submission presented earlier this week. As stated by Steve Wilson, EB Games Managing Director, “EB Games fully supports the IGEA’s submission for the introduction of an R18+ rating. This introduction of an R18+ rating in Australia is long overdue and we have welcomed this opportunity to show the Government that this is an issue that is not only supported by the gaming industry but also by the majority of Australians”.

Clarifying EB Games' stance on the ratings issues, Mr Wilson added that "[t]his is not a call for violent video games, but rather a better classification system and fair go for the local industry. Titles such as Left For Dead 2 in their unedited form are being imported unregulated and unclassified into Australia. This is not only concerning from a classification perspective, but it is also affecting local jobs”.

Of the 46,000 submissions amassed so far, around 30,000 are hand signed submissions collected in stores and an additional 16,000 comes from online submissions in conjunction with Grow Up Australia. That equates to a massive 158kg of paper to be delivered to the Attorney-General's Department this week.
