Man I would like just 1% of this :)

the game, which has more than 11 million paying monthly subscribers.

    This statement is very true.

"I think it's possible for people to be addicted to anything, not just video games," he said.

    SHOW ME THE MONEY ;)

Sad ain't it, rightly so Blizzard should cough up some dough for rehabilitating addicts

imho, to me it seems part of the reason behind the game being so addictive is that people just want to get their moneys worth out of the game, they're forking out $$ each month to play the game, the more they play it, the more they're getting out of the game. You hear about the stories of teenagers dying from exhaustion from playing the game, but afaik, there doesn't seem to be any cases of that happening in your free mmorpgs. Thats because with the free ones there is a more relaxed feel to it because there's no feeling of wasting gametime if you take a break every now and then.
But as I've only ever played the 14 day trial for WOW, This would only be a guess for me because I haven't experienced the game to its full extent :)

Exactly, for me WOW is an escape from an all too harsh reality. When you hate your job and life is getting you down WOW is a much healthier addiction than some of the stuff out there ie drugs, alcohol and pr0n.

I like it because it takes me into my own personal fantasy world, and thats NOT something that you can do in reality now is it? Yes I realise that it can become an addiction if you let it, but most of us around here have real lives and full time employment that demands so much out of us that even if we wanted to become addicts we simply couldnt. And lets face it, in WOW you can be whoever you want to be - change your whole personality if you want. You can achieve things that in real life you could never dream of.

And as for paying for rehab for the addicts, why the hell should Blizzard to that? Do you see the major Breweries and Tobacco companies paying for their addicts to recover? Of course not. What about the television networks and all the people who sit in front of the idiot box for 12 hours per day. Sue them as well? Come on, we all have choices and we're all adults.

Its my only little slice of fantasy, and I love it. Thankyou Blizzard

    Gotta agree with this one

There are people playing this game that have no lives outside wow. You can pick them easily they are the ones that are unbeatable in the PVP side of it. The amount of time it takes to get the arena gear is ridiculous. The whole game is set up as one big marketing exercise designed to keep you playing and paying... Methinks blizzard should be held accountable. They have designed it the way it is and want to addict people to it. If people arent addicted then they arent playing and paying and blizzard makes no money.

But hell they havent made tobacco products illegal yet and they certainly never will as long as governments are making billions from the product in taxes. Can only imagine how much blizzard pay in taxes.

If you don't keep a firm grasp on reality this game will zap it away faster than any other game i have played.

yeh hate to break it to you loincloth-and-homoeroticism-sword-fetish types but ryza is bang on :p

EvE is the most technically advanced MMO on the market right now and they're about to take a big leap at Blizzard with a FPS for xbox/PS3 that integrates directly into the EvE online world, and with a "walking in stations" component for the PC version that will make large parts of the game a lot more interesting for all you LARP wierdo's :p

    Interesting times afoot :D

If they pull it off EvE will be one big 30k + people live action bitch fight, complete with smack, ownage, corporate hijinks, screams of "sploits! bans them precious!", Things Exploding(tm), the subjugation of your enemies, and hearing the lamentation of their women.

    I can't wait :D
