First announced three years ago in February 2007, a glimpse of light has been shone on the progress of the closely guarded Warhammer 40k MMO in the form of a quarterly earnings report released by THQ. In the report Brian Farrell, CEO and president of THQ, announced that the game would be unveiled to the public at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo from June 15-17.

Discussing THQ's plans for this financial year, Farrell signified to investors that the Warhammer 40k MMO is clearly the "highest ranking revenue opportunity for us". Assuring investors in the benefits of a solid MMO property, Farrelll stated that "one of the big wins there is when you're successful with those properties, you have a long life on both revenues and cash flows. It's not just one or two years. It could go five, six, seven years. That is probably the biggest opportunity".

Development on the future based MMO, which follows in the footsteps of EA's 2008 fantasy orientated attempt with Warhammer Online, is currently in the hands of Virgil Games, responsible for the critically acclaimed Darksiders released last month, and led by former NCsoft director David Adams.

Hopes are high that the 40K MMO will have learnt from EA's previous MMO attempt and deliver the experience Warhammer Online always strived to be.

We can only hope it delivers more than Warhammer Online did.

I actually really liked warhammer online when i played it maybe half a year back, they launched really badly though, put up waaay too many servers for the population in a game where the mechanics rely on a high population and i think that eventually led to it's failure. See how they go with 40k then...
