Here's some vids that will bring back memories Fods & give those who don't know the game an idea of the scale of PS, dated graphics, but great gameplay. The battles were epic, especially when you had 250 players on one map Planetside Next should be awesome.

 

Should be mate, was reminiscing with Vampey about the Vanguard formations and him providing air cover this arvo on TS. If they can keep that sort of aspect for the gameplay then it will be awesome, just awesome.

 

I think it still is, just on one or two servers now though they merged a couple of them.

 

Yeh, it's still going Hans. I actually downloaded it from my ISP last night to have a look see & still have an account. There was a free trial available as well, which from memory is unlimited time, but you can only make lvl 15 I think, but I don't know if it's stiull running.

Well, seems that they have managed to balance the play better. I actaully downloaded the PS client from internode & after another 800mb download of updates from SoE & reopening my subscription, I've had a bit a play with PS & seems that things are more balanced. Hopefully this will transfer to Planetside Next (which is only a working title). I've managed to get to battlerank 3 in only a couple of hours of play & that opens up better weapons. troop type, armour etc. I don't think you had the range of vehicles available to you originally when you first start either.

There's only one server now, but had no problems finding a large scale battle to get my teeth into. Previously there would have been a lot more battles going on, but the game is now 8 years old & I was surprised at the number of players still playing & there was a few battles going on at one time. It was fun, even with very dated graphics, but the scale of the battles seems to make up for that It's like GA RnR, but with many, many more players & much, much bigger maps.

 

Some more on PS:N I found only on the members forum. This is looking like what some of us expected from Global Agenda.

 

Summary of what SoE want to do with PS:N

Making the game more real. Love the idea of weather affecting the battle, making air support impossible, how cool.

 

For RnR - Game Balance.

 

This is from dude, something Smedley whom is some high up bloke in SoE & a developer of the original PS. Well, I've been playing PS for the last couple of days & there's still a lot of activity on the one server they are running & heaps of high lvl players.

Reactivated my subscription and am downloading Planetside, be interesting to see what it's like after all these years ... has been been 3 years and 10 months since I last logged into it rofl.

 

I've been playing Fod's & have to say it's still good fun. Only the one server now, but there's pretty much always a battle going on to get involved in.

 

Have to try and make a night to jump on it then.
