Sometimes, the best news is short and sweet. Valve have taken a break from all their relentless updating, and have decided to give us a bit of a treat.

If you haven't yet picked up either Counter-Strike or Counter-Strike Source, for this weekend only, they're both on sale for 50% off the regular marked price. The original CS also comes with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero thrown in for for free!

If you want to save even more, you can even pick up the combo pack, Counter-Strike Complete, which contains all three games, for the same discount!

    Counter-Strike
Still billed as the most popular online action game, Counter-Strike often receives credit for popularizing teamplay in online games. Originally released in 1999 as a downloadable modification for the pivotal first person shooter Half-Life, Counter-Strike was a fixture on every serious PC gamer's machine by the time it was "officially" released by Sierra in 2000. With a full complement of real world pistols, rifles and shotguns, teams of players battling back and forth as terrorists and counter-terrorists in Counter-Strike became the basic blueprint for many modern team-based online shooters.
    Counter-Strike Source
A remake/update of the original Counter-Strike, running on the Half-Life 2 Source engine. This title was made available through Valve's Steam downloading service in October of 2004, with a retail release in the Fall of 2005.

With a full complement of real world pistols, rifles and shotguns, Counter-Strike's battle of terrorists and counter-terrorists became the basic blueprint for many modern team-based online shooters. Now enhanced with the power of the Source engine, the game features drastically improved visuals, enhancements on classic maps, offline skirmish play with AI bots and more.
If this sounds like a good way of spending your weekend, you'd better head over to Steam and make some purchases - this one won't last beyond August 11th!
