I'd just like to say gratz to the Aussies for pulling out of the middle east. It's unfortunate the states won't be following suit anytime soon. But, when you're fighting an abstract ideology, you can't expect to win... therefore, expect the states to be in the Middle East indefinitely

I'm in two minds of it to be honest. I've been around the military all my life so I support our troops no matter what they are doing. Now the aussies have pulled out, who's going to save the UK and US troops :(

I will indeed support the troops, as my new brother in law just returned from 1.5 years in Afghanistan himself.

My beef is the reason we are still there, the fact that the information that was given to get the vote to go to war was misinformation, and that we are still there.

Recently, the government admitted to misinforming the public about why we were going to Afghanistan in particular. All the intel we had pointed to Pakistan housing BinLaden, but we went to Afghanistan becuase it was a larger threat to the American public (not nearly as threatening as homosexuals...). the plan - as we were informed - was to knock out the camps and training facilities, make Afghanistan a democracy, and thwart any kind of terroristic movmements through MP.

Over 5 years of being at war with "terror." And now, we're looking at going into Iraq... yikes.

I think the only way to save the troops is to remove them...

My opinion is it's time to get out of Afghanistan. Just look at the history involved with the country, it has never been successfully taken over. Russia occupied it for what? 13 yrs? But eventually just had to pull out due to the cost of life.

I don't have an issue with going into a country to remove a tyrant that is a threat to peace in any region of the world, but once it's done, back out & let the country itself then sort their own affairs.

I say pull out of both Iraq & Afghanistan, but just keep an eye on them.

    Disclaimer

For the homosexual comment in my previous post:

Rick Santorum is a State Senator who made the comment "The biggest threat to the American family are homosexuals..."
If anyone needs further explanation, shoot me a PM. I'm not by any means a homophobic-stereotypical-below-the-mason-dixon-line-American-redneck. Granted, I do live below the Mason-Dixon line... but I hate it. That's why I told Dummy! I don't mind being called a "yank." Finally! I'm not a southerner.

Also, I don't believe Bush paid attention in history class. This seems rather reminiscent of a Vietnam incident, eh?
