Several questions come to mind. I can't figure it out, but this was in my aunt's garage today in Baytown, Texas.\

    1. How is it cost effective to import apples from New Zealand?
    2. Is this just an exotic company name?
    3. Is someone using transport booths? (From the Ringworld novels)

    1. I'd imagine it wouldn't be that expensive to import from NZ.
    2. It's just a standard box.
    3. Eh?

Have same sort of box filled with stuff in the garage, mind you bit more understandable me having one than your aunt lol.

#3 was actually the first thought in my head, but I dismissed it. Transport booths (or transporters for those Star Trekkoids) aren't due in this timeline until later this century.

I figured that labor cost combined with normal transport costs would be prohibitive. Seems like it would be easier to get apples from South America.

And I can't remember the last time someone said to me, "Hey man, have you tasted those New Zealand apples that they have down at the market?" (Not saying anything about the quality of New Zealand apples mind you: It's just never been mentioned to me that apples are grown and exported from New Zealand.) I guess I've been living in the dark when it comes to where fruit comes from. Just weird; to me.

You think exporting apples is bad? We live in a country that is famous for exporting our dairy products and meat. It is usually cheaper (unless there is a super super special on) to buy IMPORTED beef etc from Aussie, than it is to buy what is technically 'second grade' meat (Cause apparently, all the first grade gets exported). We're one of the worlds biggest producers of dairy products, yet we're paying premium prices for it. A 2 litre of 'brand name' milk costs $4.60 NZ ($3.35AU) at the supermarket. A 1kg block of cheese costs around $12NZ ($8.75AU).

(On a side note, minimum wage here is $12.75 hour - So you basically work more than an hour to buy a block of cheese once you've paid your taxes)

Anyway, whats wrong with importing our apples? We get bananas from the Philippines? LOL

Hmm. Now I've just had a look at that list of apples, and having worked in the supermarket industry for nearly 10 years, I can honestly say that I've never heard of 4 of those varieties. And I disagree about the 'softness' of Gala and Royal Gala apples. They're the only types I like, because they are so crunchy LOL.
